
Strong Play Leads to Win Over Texas State

Cougars complete weekend matches 3-0
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – The University of Houston Tennis team completed its weekend of competitions coming out on top of Texas State by a score of 6-1 on Sunday.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 4-1 on the season, having swept through the weekend and winning all three competitions.
Sunday's battle against the Bobcats (0-1) saw the Cougars win a pair of doubles matches, as well as five singles contests.
Senior Phonexay Chitdara and junior Sophie Gerits collected Houston's first victory of the day, winning their doubles match, 6-3. The Cougars secured the doubles point, courtesy of sophomore Azul Pedemonti and freshman Gabriela Giraldo winning a convincing match, 6-1.
In singles play, senior Mimi Kendall-Woseley needed the minimum to come out on top, winning with scores of 6-2, 6-1. Chitdara earned her second win of the day and fifth singles win of the season, after taking down Nikita Pradeep 7-6 (9-7), 6-2.
Giraldo joined Chitdara as those with multiple wins on the day, defeating Sofai Murcia with scores of 6-2, 6-2. After winning 6-4, 6-3, freshman Laura Slisane improved her singles record to 5-3 on the year. Junior Stephanie Belovukovic rounded out Houston's wins in singles play, winning her first match of the season, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.
