GAME BOOK
BOX SCORE
Double digit scoring efforts from Bria Patterson and Tatyana Hill would not be enough as the Cougars (12-16) struggled down the stretch, falling to SMU (12-14, 6-8 American). Hill and Patterson scored 12 points each, as Hill led the Cougars on the boards with seven rebounds. Dymond Gladney added five assists as Hill and Blackshell-Fair recorded three steals each.
Houston led early, jumping out to an 11-4 lead, before the Mustangs evened things up. Both teams traded baskets for a majority of the game. The Cougars forced 16 SMU turnovers, combining for nine steals as both teams had a hard time finding shots in the third quarter both shooting less than 25 percent from the field. A strong fourth quarter from SMU created a deficit that was too large for the Cougars to overcome when the UH offense stalled getting outscored 20-9 in the final frame.
Houston will return to action on Feb. 29 when the team hosts UConn in a senior day meeting at the Fertitta Center.
