Houston Rallies Late to Win Series Over USF

HOUSTON -- Houston Baseball rallied for three runs in the seventh inning to come-from-behind and clinch the weekend series with a 9-8 win over USF at Schroeder Park on Sunday.
With the win, the Cougars improved to 19-12 on the year and 6-3 in American Athletic Conference play to remain atop the league standings, while USF fell to 21-11 and 5-4.

- Jared Triolo has reached base in 30 straight games and has a hit in 16 straight.
- Lael Lockhart Jr. has reached base in 17 straight games.
- Joe Davis belted his third home run of the year, a three-run shot.
- The home run by Davis was his 25th of his career, moving him into a tie for 5th all-time with Brett Cooley (2002-04) and Bruce Rios (1996-99).

Houston tallied 10 hits en route to a 9-8 win. Offensively, the Cougars were led by junior Joe Davis, who belted his third home run of the year -- a three-run shot to left field. He plated four RBI in the win.
Jared Triolo extended his on-base streak to 30 games with another multi-hit game, going 3-for-5 with two runs. Connor Hollis scored three runs, had a hit and walked three times.
Tyler Bielamowicz had a double and sac fly to plate two RBI, while Lael Lockhart Jr., Tucker Redden and Nick Slaughter all had an RBI.

Junior Ryan Randel earned the win in relief, improving to 3-3 on the year after tossing 3.0 innings, allowing just one run on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Sophomore closer Carter Henry picked up another save -- his third on the year and second on the weekend, tossing a scoreless and hitless ninth.
Senior Joey Pulido made his first career and went 2.1 innings, allowing four hits and two runs with two walks and one strikeout.
Sophomore Brayson Hurdsman took over in the third and finished with 1.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with one walk. Senior Kyle Ott struck out a batter in relief.
Redshirt freshman Hunter Edwards allowed two runs on one hit with one walk in his appearance before handing the ball to sophomore Fred Villarreal, who worked 1.0 inning, allowing one run on two hits with a strikeout.
KEY INNINGS
1st | USF took a 1-0 lead early on a pair of hits in the top of the first.
Houston then responded with two runs to go ahead 2-1 thanks to back-to-back sacrifice flies by Joe Davis and Tyler Bielamowicz, scoring Connor Hollis and Jared Triolo, who each singled.
2nd | USF uses two hits to plate another run and tie the game at 2-2 in the second.
3rd | Joe Davis put Houston back on top at 5-2 with a three-run home run, his third long ball of the year, plating Hollis and Lael Lockhart Jr., who each walked.
4th | USF uses a three-hit fourth inning to score two runs and trim Houston's lead to just one at 5-4.
The Cougars used a lead off double by Grayson Padgett in the latter half of the frame to make it a 6-4 game as Cooper Coldiron moved Padgett to third on a sac bunt and Tucker Redden plated him with a sac fly to center field.
5th | USF uses three hits and a sac fly to plate three runs in the fifth to gain a 7-6 advantage over the Cougars.
6th | The Bulls added to their lead with another run in the sixth to make it 8-6.
7th | Houston had a big inning, scoring three runs to come-from-behind and retake the lead at 9-8. Hollis led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on Triolo's third hit of the day. Lockhart came up big, plating Hollis to make it 8-7 on an RBI-single into center.
With one out, Tyler Bielamowicz doubled down the left field line, plating Triolo to tie the game at 8-8 before a sacrifice bunt-fielder's choice by Nick Slaughter scored Lockhart for the 9-8 advantage.

Houston will welcome Rice to Schroeder Park on Tuesday, April 10 for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch.
The game will mark the second meeting between the two teams in the Silver Glove Series.
