Houston Earns 1-0 Shutout Win over Rice

HOUSTON -- Houston Baseball pitching was lights out in a 1-0 shutout win over Rice to earn victory No. 20 on the year and even the Silver Glove Series at Schroeder Park on Tuesday.
With the win, the Cougars improved to 20-12 on the year and 17-4 at home, while Rice fell to 15-20.
The two teams will meet once more at Constellation Field in Sugar Land on Tuesday, May 15 at 7 p.m.
HOUSTON HITS
- Jared Triolo has reached base in 31 straight games and has a hit in 17 straight.
- Houston has played 14 1-run games this season (8-6).
- The Cougars improved to 17-4 at home this season.
- Houston pitching earned its fifth shutout of the season.

Connor Hollis led the offensive attack with the game-winning RBI-single, scoring Grayson Padgett, who led off the frame with a hit. Tyler Bielamowicz tallied a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4.

Sophomore Lael Lockhart Jr. made his first career start and held Rice hitless in 3.0 shutout innings of work. He allowed five walks and struck out three.
Classmate Fred Villarreal took over in the fourth and went 3.1 shutout frames to help preserve the 0-0 game. He allowed just two hits and two walks with one strikeout.
Sophomore Carter Henry relieved Villarreal in the seventh and worked around an inherited jam to strand bases loaded and send the Cougars back to back in a scoreless game.
Henry went on to toss 2.2 shutout innings without allowing a hit, a run and a walk with three strikeouts to improve to 3-0 on the year. The righty hasn't allowed a run in his last four appearances.
KEY INNINGS
7th | Houston broke open the 0-0 stalemate in the seventh when Grayson Padgett led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a sac bunt by Cooper Coldiron, to third on a balk and scored on a clutch, two-out RBI-single by Connor Hollis to make it 1-0.
ON DECK
Houston will travel to New Orleans for a three-game American Athletic Conference series vs. Tulane this weekend. The series will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, continue at 2 p.m. Saturday and wrap at 1 p.m. Sunday.
