Houston Falls to SMU 4-1

DALLAS â€" The Houston Cougar Women's Tennis Team lost their third match of the season 4-1 to SMU in Dallas. All three losses have come on the road and this is their first loss since March 16.
They move to 17-3 heading into the final match of the season in a doubleheader against Prairie View A&M tomorrow, April 8.
The Cougars started out strong by battling to win the doubles point. Lauren Alter and Alison Mills took down Liza Buss and Ana Perez-Lopez 6-3. They picked up their twelfth win of the spring season when playing together.
Ana Glumac and Constandena Nicolaou fell in their doubles match 6-2 to Tiffany Hollebeck and Anzhelika Shapovalova. This loss made the final doubles match the deciding match for who would win the doubles point.
Tsveta Dimitrova and Sveva Mazzari won a gutsy match 6-4 against Karina Traxler and Sarai Monarrez Yesaki to give the Cougars the doubles point. Dimitrova and Mazzari hold the best record in doubles for the Cougars with a 12-2 mark.
Starting singles, Sveva Mazzari suffered her first loss of the season 6-2, 6-0 to Liza Buss. Mazzari still holds a very impressive 16-1 singles record.
Alison Mills finished next and also lost 6-2, 6-0. She fell to Ana Perez-Lopez and now has a 7-8 singles record this season. SMU led 2-1 after this match had finished.
Ana Glumac lost 6-3, 6-1 to Nicole Petchey. SMU extended their lead to 3-1 in the overall match.
Tsveta Dimitrova suffered only her fourth loss this season 6-3, 6-3 to Karina Traxler. This gave SMU a 4-1 match win after winning four straight singles matches.
Constandena Nicolaou's match went unfinished while she was leading 7-6, 3-1 over Sarai Monarrez Yesaki. Lauren Alter's match also went unfinished, and she was winning her match 7-5, 3-4 against Anzhelika Shapovalova.
UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
The Cougars return home to face Prairie View A&M in a doubleheader in their final match of the season. Start times are set for 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.
