
Houston Falls to Wichita State 4-2

DALLAS â€" The Houston Cougar Women's Tennis Team lost in the quarterfinals of The American Championship to No. 3 seeded Wichita State 4-2 on Thursday.
The Cougars battled hard in doubles against the Shockers. To start doubles, Ana Glumac and Constandena Nicolaou fell 6-3 to Gabriela Porubin and Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva. Glumac and Nicolaou are now 9-3 when playing together.
Lauren Alter and Alison Mills fought hard in a 6-4 loss to Ting-Ya Hsu and Giulia Guidetti. This clinched the doubles point for the Shockers. Alter and Mills move to a 14-4 record in doubles.
Tsveta Dimitrova and Sveva Mazzari's match went unfinished as they were trailing 5-4 against #67 nationally ranked doubles partners Fatima Bizhukova and Marta Bellucco. They remain with an impressive 13-2 record this season.
For singles, Mills finished first in a loss to Gabriela Porubin 6-2, 6-4. The Shockers led 2-0 in the overall match after this result. Mills moves to 8-9 in singles on the season.
The Cougars won the next two matches to even the overall score at 2-2. Mazzari beat Sandra Honigova 6-1, 6-4 and Dimitrova won 6-2, 7-5 over #60 nationally ranked Fatima Bizhukova.
Wichita State responded with two wins of their own to clinch the match 4-2. Alter lost in a tough, three-set match 2-6, 6-4, 1-6 to Giulia Guidetti. She moves to 15-2 in singles this spring season.
To finish the match, Nicolaou lost in three sets to Marta Bellucco 6-2, 5-7, 1-6. Nicolaou is now 12-4 in singles this season.
With the Shockers clinching the match, Ana Glumac's match went unfinished as she was down 6-3, 3-6, 5-6.
The Cougars now have a 20-4 overall record this spring season.
