Vesely Signs Contract Extension through 2021

Houston coach took Cougars to NCAA Regional in 2018 in second 30-win season
HOUSTON – With back-to-back 30-win seasons already under her belt, University of Houston Softball head coach Kristin Vesely has signed a two-year extension to her existing contract through the 2021 season.

"In just a short time, Kristin and her staff have quickly returned our program to the level of competition it belongs on," Houston Vice President for Athletics Chris Pezman said. "Under her leadership, the program is not only thriving on the field, but off the field and in the classroom as well, and as we continue to build Champions for Life, we are excited to have Kristin on the forefront of that mission."

In only two years at the helm of the program, Vesely has restored Houston's postseason expectations, reaching an NCAA Regional in 2018. Under her leadership, Vesely has also tutored nine All-Conference players for Houston, including pitcher Savannah Heebner, who was named the 2018 American Athletic Conference Co-Pitcher of the Year, as well as Shelby Miller, who was named The American's Co-Player of the Year in 2017.

"This is an extremely exciting time to be a part of the University of Houston Athletics Department and I am grateful to be able to continue coaching our student-athletes in their pursuits to become Champions for Life," Vesely said. "The commitment we've received from our leadership, student-athletes and great support staff has been instrumental in the success we have had the past two years."
Last season, Vesely guided Heebner to NFCA All-American honors, becoming the first Houston player to earn All-America status since Haley Outon in 2014. The 2018 campaign also found Houston make significant strides when competing amongst the nation's best, tallying three wins over ranked opponents, the most victories against ranked teams since 2011.

In each of the two years Vesely has led the Cougars, Houston has finished second in conference play, which is the highest finish for Houston since joining The American in 2014.
Vesely's accomplishments with Houston Softball have been recognized off the field as well, having set new standards in the classroom for Houston Athletics. In 2017, Houston was awarded NFCA Division I All-Academic Team honors, to go along with the 15 student-athletes that received NCFA Academic All-American Scholar accolades that season. Â
