Cougars Fall to No. 73 Brown 4-2

HOUSTON -- The Houston Cougar women's tennis team split a pair of weekend matches after falling to No. 73 Brown 4-2, at the Houston Country Club, Sunday.
The Cougars opened the day strong with a win in doubles competition. Despoina Vogasari and Rocio Martin were the first to finish, defeating Dayna Lord and Alyza Benotto 6-3 on court one. This was quickly followed with a victory on court two where Tina Rupert and Maria Cardenas beat Hannah Camhi and Katie Ta 6-3.
On court three, Mina Markovic and Marnie Stokes were going head-to-head with Maddie Stearns and Ammu Mandalap, with the Coogs up 5-4 at the conclusion of the doubles competition.
Brown found the scoreboard not long into singles play with Benotto defeating Rupert 6-2, 6-3 on court two, and Cardenas becoming the next to be edged out, falling 6-4, 6-2 to Ta on court five to make the score 2-1 Brown.
The Bears followed with another win on court six when Mariska Chamdani defeated Stokes 6-4, 6-1. With Brown leading 3-1, the Cougar's continued to fight on the remaining three courts, including Markovic who managed to lock down another point for Houston by taking court three 6-3, 7-5 against Camhi. However, Brown scored its final point on court one with Lorde defeating Vogasari 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.
Martin was up 7-5, 5-4 against Stearns on court four at the conclusion of today's match.
UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
The Cougars are back at John E. Hoff Courts next week to face Tulane on Friday, March 11 at 1 p.m. Houston will continue the weekend as they host Texas Tech on Saturday, March 12 at 1 p.m. and Kansas on Sunday, March 13 at 12 p.m., with Saturday and Sunday's matches each back at the Houston Country Club.

Gifts to the Center Court Club provide financial support directly to the University of Houston Tennis program for needs beyond the program's operating budget. Revenue generated from the Center Court Club is used at the discretion of the Head Coach for program enhancements. Membership in the Center Court Club is annual and requires a minimum $100 gift.

For a minimum gift of $500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation and a stadium blanket.
US OPEN
For a minimum gift of $1,000, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket and a lesson from the coach.
GRAND SLAM
For a minimum gift of $2,500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket, a lesson from the coach and a group lesson from the coaching staff.
