LAS VEGAS, Nev. - A seven-run third inning highlighted by a Julana Shrum solo homer led to a 7-2 victory over Eastern Kentucky during game one of the UNLV Rebel Classic Friday morning.

With the win, the Cougars extend their win streak to three game. Houston improved to 10-12 on the season and 1-0 during the tournament.

Eastern Kentucky led with a 1-0 start after Sarah Fobbs homer to left field. Shrum would only allow two more hits before Houston's go-ahead inning.

A seven-run third inning put Houston ahead for the rest of the game. Shrum belted her fourth home run of the week over the right field fence tying the game, 1-1. Senior Kayla Holland singled to RF and advanced to second on a bunted single by Katie St. Pierre.

Freshman Kaylin Crumpton laid down the sacrifice bunt to move runners into scoring position. EKU's pitcher Pittsenbarger walked in a run after shortstop Selena Hernandez drew the five-pitch walk to load the bases. With one out and bases still loaded, Tiffani McKnight drove in a run as she hit a sac fly to centerfield. Catcher Kris Davila plated two more runs with a double, pushing Houston's lead to 7-1.

Houston would only allow one more run by the Colonels.

Shrum (4-5) took the win for Houston. She pitched 6.0 innings and only allowed one earned run, five hits and struck out two.
