Houston Softball Stuns Illinois 12-2

HOUSTON - The University of Houston Softball team stunned Illinois 12-2 during the final day of the Hilton Houston Plaza Classic Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars improved to 7-11 on the season while Illinois dropped to 5-10.
Houston took a 2-0 lead early in the first inning as starting Illinois pitcher Breanna Wonderly walked two and hit two batters. The Cougars stretched its lead 4-1 off a two-run blast by senior Tiffani McKnight.
Illinois plated a run in the top of the fourth off a leadoff homerun by left fielder Nicole Evans.
Cougars put up eight more runs in the bottom of the fourth off six hits and two errors. Senior first baseman Jaime Edwards started the inning with a leadoff walk. Senior second baseman Kayla followed with a two-run homer over the centerfield wall to put Houston up 6-2. Four singles and a double followed as the cougars knocked in three more runs, pushing the Cougars up 12-2 over
Junior shortstop Selena Hernandez led the Cougars as she went 1-for-1 and scored a run. McKnight also had an impressive game as she went 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs.
Senior Summer Groholski (2-2) took the win for the Cougars as she pitched a complete game, allowing only two runs off three hits.
This game marked the most runs scored in a game this season by Houston and tied for the most home runs in a game.
UP NEXT
Houston Softball travels to College Station for a single game series against No. 22/23 Texas A&M on Wednesday. The game will be aired on SEC Network Plus with a first pitch slated for 6 p.m.

Parking is available in the TDECU Stadium parking garage with the first 30 minutes free of charge. Regular business hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
All UH main campus students are admitted FREE to regular-season softball home games with a valid student ID.
SINGLE-GAME TICKETS ON SALE NOW
Fans can purchase general admission single-game tickets beginning as low as $5 for youth and $8 for adults through UHCougars.com or by contacting the Houston Athletics Ticket Office at 713-GO-COOGS (462-6647).
While single-game tickets are available, fans are encouraged to save and purchase 2015 season tickets. General admission season tickets are just $75 for 28 home games ($2.68 per ticket).
