The exchange was emblematic of the entire match, perhaps the closest and most well-played of the event so far.
Despite the loss, Vogasari took Houston tennis into a new stratosphere during a magnificent fall campaign. The Athens, Greece native won UH's first ever USTA/ITA Texas Regional title in mid-October, and she was twice named American Athletic Conference Player of the Month. She knocked off five nationally-ranked opponents during the fall, including a victory over No. 15 Zoe Scandalis of USC on Thursday morning.
Scandalis was the highest-ranked player that Vogasari has beaten in her burgeoning career. The UH sophomore entered the fall ranked No. 68 nationally, a listing that is sure to rise after her recent form.

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - University of Houston sophomore Despoina Vogasari lost a thrilling match to No. 43 Maegan Manasse of Cal, 6-4, 6-4, on Friday in the Round of 16 at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships. With the loss, the Cougar dynamo is eliminated from the prestigious tournament.
Vogasari was down a set but up, 4-3, with a break point with the eighth game of set two. But Manasee held serve after winning two consecutive marathon rallies, and she went on to finish out the match after tying the second set at 4-all.
