HOUSTON - Head Coach Patrick Sullivan is proud to announce that Olaya Inclan has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the University of Houston tennis program prior to the 2015 fall season. Inclan comes to Houston by way of Pravia, Spain.
"Olaya is a very physically talented tennis player that reminds us a lot of Elena (Kordolaimi), both in that she plays extremely aggressive tennis and that she loves to train and compete," said Sullivan. "What really won us over about Olaya is her attitude and work ethic - she is on fire for tennis and has an incredibly positive outlook."
One of the top all-around players in her native Spain, Inclan is currently ranked in the top-40 in the Spanish Women's Open rankings. She has already accomplished a great deal in her tennis career, including a victory in the 2012 ITF U16 Apple Bowl doubles championship. She was also a semifinalist in the 2012 U16 Spanish national tournament, and she won her first match in a professional tournament at the age of 15, taking a victory in the Getxo, Spain Futures Tournament.
"A lot of young people want to be champions, but they aren't willing to put in the work. We could tell very early in the process that Olaya understands and wants to continue to put forth the level of commitment and dedication that it takes to be great," Sullivan added. "Olaya is a really good fit for us, and she is going to have a very smooth transition into the highly-motivated group we already have here on campus. We are very excited to get her to Houston this summer."
Inclan joins a program that already features five players with national team experience and boasts the reigning USTA/ITA Texas Regional champion, Despoina Vogasari. Like many of her future teammates, she has already earned a WTA ranking, rising at high as No. 1,143 in the September 2014 rankings.
