HOUSTON - Jessica Zavalza scored to lead the University of Houston women's soccer team to a, 1-0, win over Houston Baptist Wednesday night at Sorrels Field.
"With our second consecutive victory we are starting to build our confidence," said senior forward Jessica Zavalza. "We are playing more aggressive and it is leading to more points and victories."
The Cougars came out lively in the first half as they outshot HBU, 13-1. Although neither team was able to score in the first half, it set the tone for the remainder of the match.
After a scoreless first half, Houston took the lead in the 47th minute when senior forward Zavalza scored the game-winning goal, following a Jasmine Martinez corner kick. The Cougars attempted 10 corner kicks in the match, while limiting the Huskies to one.
Houston keeper Cami Koski (2-3-0) recorded her second consecutive shutout in Wednesday's victory. Koski registered seven saves on nine HBU shot attempts en route to her 11th career shutout. Koski recorded her first shutout of the season in the, 9-0, blanking of Texas Southern Friday at Robertson Stadium.
The win over HBU snapped the Huskies seven-match home winning streak that dated back to last season.
