Houston Tennis Dominates Centenary, 6-0

SHREVEPORT, La. - The University of Houston tennis team didn't drop a single game in a 6-0 rout of Centenary, Friday afternoon in Shreveport, La. The Cougars claimed their first win of the 2011 season to improve to 1-1 overall.
"Our team knows the meaning of getting this win," said head coach John Severance. "It feels good to get the first win of the season."
Elena Kazakova and Bryony Hunter teamed up to defeat the Centenary duo of Holden Penney and Holly Clark by a score of 8-0 at the top doubles position, while the freshman tandem of Jo Garvey and Dionne Sanders clinched the doubles point with an 8-0 shutout of Caitlin Orschel and Taylor Gilmour.
The Cougars rolled though singles play with straight-set shutout victories at the top four positions, while Houston won by default at the No. 5 spot.
Hunter led off play by defeating Penney at the top singles position, while Kazakova picked up her first win of the season over Gilmour at the No. 4 spot.
Both Sanders and Garvey notched their first collegiate dual match victories, as Sanders triumphed over Holly Clark at the No. 2 position and Garvey cruised past Orschel at the No. 3 slot.
The Cougars return to action against Grambling State at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in Grambling, La.
