Baseball Falls In Series Opener at UAB, 11-6

Birmingham, Ala. - The University of Houston baseball team lost the series opener to UAB, 11-6, Friday night at Young Memorial Field.
Despite home runs from Blake Kelso, Zak Presley and Chris Wallace, the Cougars were not able to take down the Blazers, who posted five runs in their opening at bat.
After giving up the early 5-0 lead to UAB, Kelso put the Cougars on the board in the top of the third inning, with a leadoff home run, his third of the season. Presley followed that up with a second home run in the inning, with two outs, to cut the deficit to three, 5-2.
UAB answered with solo home runs in the next two innings from Nick Crawford and Luke Stewart and posted three runs in the seventh inning.
Houston then put together a four-run rally to pull within four, 10-6. Presley plated Kelso on a double down the left field line and he would go on to score on a Codey Morehouse single through the right side. Wallace then sent in two Cougar runs with a home run to right field.
The Blazers ended the game with a single run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
UP NEXT
Due to inclement weather, the series against UAB will conclude on Saturday with a double-header beginning at 11 a.m. The second game of the day will begin approximately 45 minutes following game one.
Following the series against UAB, Houston will return to Cougar Field for an eight-game home stand beginning May 7-9 against Tulane. It will continue against Texas A&M (May 11), Marshall (May 14-16) and concluding with Rice (May 18).
