Tennis Defeats Texas-Pan American 5-2

ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Houston tennis team moved to 3-0 Saturday with a 5-2 win over Texas- Pan American.
As with their previous match, the Cougars started well taking all three doubles matches. Bryony Hunter and Elena Kazakova again teamed up at the No. 1 spot to beat UTPA's Megan Bedeau and Luisa Cantu 8-1. Joanna Kacprzyk and Maja Kazimieruk defeated the Broncs' Nina Ciric and Sarah Burton 8-2 at the No. 2 spot, and Neila Starratt and Laura Ring received a walkover at the No. 3 spot.
With a 1-0 advantage, Houston continued to control the match as senior Starratt defeated Sarah Burton 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot. Kazimieruk put Houston up 3-0 with a win over Andrea Salvetova 6-0, 6-2, but UTPA pulled one back at the No. 2 spot as Kacprzyk lost to Luisa Cantu 6-1, 6-2.
The win was decided as Hunter defeated Bedeau 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot, before Laura Ring lost at the No. 3 spot to Nina Ciric 6-2, 6-1. At the No. 6 spot, Houston's Alexandra Pickerill received a walkover.
On Sunday, the Cougars conclude their season-opening weekend with a 10 a.m. match against Northwestern State.
