HOUSTON - The Houston Cougars soccer team tied Southern Miss 1-1 in Hattiesburg, Miss. Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Kaci Bush scored her first career goal in the draw.
Houston is 9-3-2 overall and 4-1-1 in Conference USA Play this year, tied for third best in the league.
Houston was able to gain the lead with two seconds remaining in the first half. Off a Jasmine Martinez corner kick, Bush headed the ball home to give the Cougars momentum going into halftime.
Southern Miss tied the game in the 81st minute on their own set piece off a corner kick.
Houston outshot the Golden Eagles 27-12 and had a season-high 11 corner kicks but the finishing skills were not there for the Cougars for the day.
"We created a lot of chances and we need to convert those," said head coach Susan Bush. "We will continue to drill and practice on finishing as we prepare for our last home matches this week."
Cami Koski had four saves for the Cougars in the draw. She was one of four players including Kylie Cook, Danielle Munoz, Jasmine Martinez, to play the entire 110-minutes.
The Cougars are 2-0-2 in overtime games this year.
