Softball Loses 9-1 to No. 13 Missouri

HOUSTON--The University of Houston softball team lost to No. 13 Missouri, 9-1 on Tuesday at Cougar Softball Stadium, falling to 13-15 overall.
Houston had six hits and one run scored off a home run hit by Haley Valis and was unable to manufacture any more runs, despite leaving seven runners on base. A six-run sixth inning helped the Tigers capture the win.
The Tigers' Lindsey Ubrun hit a home run off the first pitch to start the top of the second inning. Houston was able to end the inning down, 1-0 with a double play made by senior Christa Raley and a ground out to senior second baseman Haley Valis.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Cougars tied the score at one with a home run hit by Haley Valis.
Houston loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning on two outs, but was unable to put any runs together when senior Elaina Nordstrom grounded out to second base.
Micaela Minner helped the Tigers take the lead again when she hit a two-run home run, followed by a single by Andee Allen to drive Marla Schweisberger in. Missouri continued to hit, scoring six runs on six hits.
Sophomore Amanda Crabtree was brought in to pitch for sophomore Baillie Lott and struck out the first batter she faced. On two outs, Julie Silver hit a single and knocked two more runs and Rhea Taylor hit a double to score a final run of the inning for a 7-1 lead.
In the top of the seventh, Missouri added two more runs before junior Lindsey Olson was brought in to pitch for her second Cougar appearance this season.
Houston was not able to score any runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Wagner extended her hitting streak with a single hit in the first inning.
Lott drops to 6-6 after striking out three and allowing six runs on six hits. Crabtree allowed three runs on three hits and struck out one. Olson did not record any strikeouts and walked two.
Houston plays No. 13 Missouri Wednesday at Cougar Softball Stadium. The game is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
