Day 1 Results From The San Diego Tournament

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - With Day 1 of the San Diego Tournament over, senior Biljana Dimovska and junior Kami Miller both advanced to tomorrow's quarterfinal rounds with two wins apiece on the day.
The tournament marks the first event of the year for the 2004-05 Cougar tennis team that returned four girls from last season's 15-6 run.
Competiting in the Singles A-Flight, Dimovska advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Tara Livesay of the University of San Diego and then making quick work of Melissa Minor from Alabama.
Miller defeated both of her opponents in the Singles B-Flight where she topped both Sonja Nikolic of Alabama and Sara Sansom of San Diego State.
Newcomers Sacha Gumbs and Tiffany McLaughlin played well for their first Div. I matches as McLaughlin won her first match as a Cougar in the Single B-Flight, downing Carla Bell of SDSU but then fell to Lauren Kazarin of USD in the following match.
Gumbs lost both her opening singles matches in the Singles A-Flight, but will play with doubles partner Dimovska in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket.
Senior Diana Martin also dropped both her opening singles matches in the Singles A-Flight but advanced with doubles partner Miller to the quarterfinals championship bracket after defeating Livesay and Brittany Reitz of USD.
