Houston Cougar Softball Flames of UIC

Plant City, Fla. - The game looked like a war of homeruns in the first three innings. The Flames lead-off hitter, E. Leyden hit out the first homerun of the game followed by the Cougars Kristen Glowacz who also brought in Leslie Seay (1B). The second homer by the Cougars was a solo by Kim Cote who had been reaching for the fence the whole tournament. In the bottom of the third the Cougars led by 2, (3-1).
The hitting match-up continued through the fourth. UIC scored Hernandez and Statura on Stautura's homerun and scored Hallman and Gonzalez on Gonzales' homerun making the score 5-3 UIC in the top of the fourth.
The Cougars did not let up and scored their own four runs in the bottom of the inning. Kim Nesloney reached base with a walk, Lindsay Durham moved her over being hit by pitch, and Leslie Seay singled to load the bases. Pinch hitter Jenilee Skender earned credit for scoring Nesloney with her hit. Kristen Glowacz singled and both runners were scored by Ray Ferreris' homerun.
Allison Thompson began the game for the Cougars and Jenny Johnson finished it up for the win. Johnson is now 7-5 on the season finishing the game with no runs against and seven strikeouts in 3.1 innings. The Cougars continue on to semifinal games at 10:30am
