Cougars force extra innings in weekend finale behind two runs in the bottom of the ninth

HOUSTON – Houston Baseball dropped the final game of its weekend series to Cincinnati, 4-3, in 11 innings on Sunday afternoon at Schroeder Park.

Harrison Boushele (1-1) took the loss, allowing the decisive run in the top of the 11^th inning. He tossed 1.1 innings where he didn't allow a hit and struck out one for Houston (19-28, 4-20). Chad Brown (4-0) earned the win after throwing the final 1.2 innings for Cincinnati (32-17, 13-11).

GAME SUMMARY
The Bearcats took the first lead of the game, capitalizing on a Houston miscue to push a run across in the top of the first. The game entered a stalemate after, with both teams having runners reach scoring position but neither squad able to get a run across.

Houston broke the impasse in the sixth. Senior Cade Climie hit his third double of the weekend and Savattere followed it up with his third RBI, driving home Climie with a single to right field to even the score at 1-1.

Cincinnati ended the tie in the top of the ninth as Derrick Pitts hit a two-run homer, but Houston stormed back in the bottom of the innings with a pair of runs of its own. With a pair of runners in scoring position, redshirt senior Irvin Weems III laid down a bunt as part of a suicide squeeze. Savattere scored on the bunt itself while freshman Peyton Dickens raced around third on the throw to first, beating the throw back home to even the score and force extras.

After a scoreless 10^th inning, Cincinnati broke the tie in the 11^th with a run crossing on a double from Pitts to claim the 4-3 win.

UP NEXT
Houston caps a five-game homestand with a 6:30 p.m. Tuesday tilt against Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
