Two-Time All-OVC Selection Raegan McCowan Joins Houston Women’s Basketball

Senior guard Raegan McCowan averaged 20.4 points per game during three seasons at Western Illinois
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women's Basketball program welcomes two-time All-OVC First Team honoree Raegan McCowan to its 2026–27 roster, Head Coach Matthew Mitchell announced Friday.
A 6-0 guard from Lebanon, Mo., McCowan joins the Cougars after a standout career at Western Illinois, where she emerged as one of the top scorers in the Ohio Valley Conference. She has two seasons of eligibility remaining and has scored more than 1,500 career points.
McCowan played in just 10 games during the 2025–26 season before suffering an elbow injury. Despite only playing in 10 games, she averaged 17.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per game while shooting 47.8%. percent from the field.
During the 2024-25 season, McCowan earned All-OVC First Team honors for the second straight season and was named to the OVC All-Tournament Team. She started all 34 games and led the team in scoring (22.3 ppg), rebounding (7.9 rpg), field goals made (277), and free throws made (169).
She reached her 1,000th career point against Eastern Illinois, becoming the fastest player in program history to hit the milestone in just 50 games.
McCowan set program records for most points in a single season (759) and most field goals made (277), while recording 10 double-doubles and scoring in double figures in 33 of 34 games, including a season-high 35 points against Lindenwood.
As a freshman, McCowan made an immediate impact, earning OVC Freshman of the Year, First Team OVC All-Conference, and All-Ohio Valley Newcomer Team honors. She led the conference in scoring with 19.2 points per game, ranking 32nd nationally, and received OVC Freshman of the Week honors a record 13 times.
She also led Western Illinois in rebounding (8.1 rpg) and field goal percentage (46.1%), while scoring in double figures in 29 of 30 games.
McCowan prepped at Lebanon High School in Lebanon, Mo., where she was a three-time All-District and All-Conference selection, and earned All-State honors in 2022. During her senior season, she averaged 26.9 points, 9.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.2 steals per game as a senior and was named Ozark Conference Player of the Year.
In the classroom, McCowan is a three-time Academic All-State selection while also being a member of the National Honor Society and earning a spot on the Lebanon High School Honor Roll.
