PREVIEW: Baseball Hosts Long-Time League Rival Cincinnati

HOUSTON – Houston Baseball continues a five-game homestand as it hosts Cincinnati at Schroeder Park for a three-game series starting with a doubleheader on Saturday. Game one in the twin-bill starts at 1 p.m. with game two beginning approximately 45 minutes following the conclusion of game one. The series finale starts at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Houston Baseball hosts Little League Weekend and Camper Reunion at Schroeder Park this weekend, bringing young fans and families to the heart of the action. Be one of the first 200 fans through the gates each game and snag a foam Cougar Paw to show your pride.

Sunday adds even more energy with the Cougars' second Houston Blue game of the season, paired with Family Sunday at the ballpark. Houston will take the field in its Houston Blue jerseys, while the first base berm transforms into a family zone filled with inflatables and yard games.

After the final out, the day becomes all about the kids. Youth in attendance have the chance to run the bases, meet the team and collect autographs to cap off a full day of Cougar Baseball.

The Cougars are coming off a 4-2 win over McNeese in its second midweek contest of the week. It marked the first game for Houston back at Schroeder Park since April 11.
Houston has wins against #3 (Texas) and #4 (Alabama) in the NCAA's latest RPI release. The Cougars are the only Big 12 team with a one Top 3 win, one of two with at least one Top 5 win and one of eight with at least five Quad 1 wins.
Houston is 3-5 against ranked opponents this year, including significant wins against #2 Texas on March 24, #15 West Virginia on April 17 and #21 Wake Forest on Feb. 13.
Three former Cougars were named to MLB Opening Day rosters: John King (Miami), Jared Triolo (Pittsburgh) and Connor Wong (Boston). Overall, 15 Cougars are on MLB or MiLB rosters to start their respective seasons, including an additional six at the Triple-A level.
The Cougars play 11 different conferences including all of the Power 4 leagues. Houston has secured a win against an opponent from every Power 4 conference.
Houston started the season with a 4-0 showing at the Puerto Rico Challenge, defeating No. 21 Wake Forest in the first NCAA Division I Baseball game of the season. The showing propelled the Cougars into the national spotlight, with the team receiving votes in the NCBWA Poll for the next four weeks.
Houston captured its highest ranked win under Head Coach Todd Whitting as it downed #2 Texas on March 24.
A year after leading Houston with a .289 batting average in conference play, Tyler Cox is right back at it. The senior currently holds a .309 average against league opponents to pace Houston, collecting 25 hits including five for extra bases.
The Cougars face the 34th hardest schedule in the country this year, including 15 games against Quad One opponents and another three against Quad Two foes.
The Cougars face a loaded schedule in 2026, battling five teams that finished 2025 in the Top 25 of RPI. The team will play 29 of its 55 games against teams that finished in the Top 50 of the NCAA's RPI and 25 games against teams that made the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
