PREVIEW: Cougars Clash at Schroeder Park This Weekend

HOUSTON – Houston Baseball returns home to battle the other Cougars in the Big 12 Conference as BYU travels to Schroeder Park for a three-game series presented by Trust Guss. Starting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, the series continues at 6:30 p.m. Friday before a 1 p.m. Saturday conclusion.

The series is Houston's Masters Weekend. The first 150 fans at each game will receive a special-edition Houston Baseball golf towel. Trust Guss will also raffle off a custom Houston-branded pair of Nike's on Friday.

Houston has wins against #2 (Alabama) and #3 (Texas) in the NCAA's latest RPI release. The Cougars are the only Big 12 team with even one Top 3 win, one of two with at least one Top 5 win and one of seven with at least four Quad 1 wins.
Houston is coming off a 5-4 win in the final game of the Don Sanders Cup. The Cougars clinched the Cup for the fourth time in program history, winning both games in Huntsville, Texas, to secure the title.
Three former Cougars were named to MLB Opening Day rosters: John King (Miami), Jared Triolo (Pittsburgh) and Connor Wong (Boston).
The Cougars play 11 different conferences including all of the Power 4 leagues. Houston has secured a win against an opponent from every Power 4 conference.
Houston started the season with a 4-0 showing at the Puerto Rico Challenge, defeating No. 21 Wake Forest in the first NCAA Division I Baseball game of the season. The showing propelled the Cougars into the national spotlight, with the team receiving votes in the NCBWA Poll for the next four weeks.
The Cougars turned seven double plays against Texas Tech, tying for the second most in the country last weekend.
Houston captured its highest ranked win under Head Coach Todd Whitting as it downed #2 Texas on March 24.
Junior Tre Broussard has been highly ranked on MLB Draft prospects lists. MLB.com put him at No. 46 on their first 2026 Top 100 Draft prospects list while FloBaseball tabbed him at 79^th, and D1Baseball placed him at No. 65.
The Cougars face a loaded schedule in 2026, battling five teams that finished 2025 in the Top 25 of RPI. The team will play 29 of its 55 games against teams that finished in the Top 50 of the NCAA's RPI and 25 games against teams that made the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
