Houston claims first series win at Texas Tech since 1980 with 3-run 9th, 11th

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Houston Baseball team overcame a 3-run deficit in the ninth inning to force extra innings before plating three more runs in the 11^th to win its second straight game, 13-10, to win the series at Rip Griffin Park on Friday afternoon.

The series win marked the Cougars first series win in Lubbock since 1980 (Houston had played just two series at Texas Tech since 1996).

Right fielder Xavier Perez posted a three-hit day and laced a single with one out in the 11^th. Catcher Riley Jackson, who drove in a team-high three runs, singled and first baseman Cade Climie walked to load the bases for third baseman Jackson LaLima who walked on four straight pitches to bring home the go-ahead run. Second baseman, and former Red Raider Antonelli Savattere ripped a two-run double to right field to give Houston (15-14, 3-8 Big 12) a 13-10 lead.

Center fielder Tre Broussard posted a four-hit day with a triple, double and two singles, finishing the day a home run shy of the cycle.

Texas Tech (17-13, 4-7 Big 12) strung together 22 hits in the game and scored four runs over the seventh and eighth innings to take a three-run lead.

The Cougars scraped across three runs in the top of the ninth to force extra innings on a couple of doubles, a sacrifice fly and a Red Raider balk.

In his first outing since Feb. 27, right-handed pitcher Richie Roman (1-0) worked the ninth and 10^th innings without allowing a hit to earn the win.

Left-handed pitcher Chris Scinta earned his second save with a scoreless, hitless 11^th.

The Cougars look to sweep the series on Saturday at Noon inside Rip Griffin Park in Lubbock, Texas. The game can be streamed on ESPN+.
