TCU surges to victory in final game of weekend series

FORT WORTH – Houston Baseball fell in the final game of a three-game series to TCU, 14-2, at Lupton Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Junior Richie Roman (2-1) took the loss in his first start since February, allowing five runs in 2.2 innings on the mound for Houston (18-24, 4-17 Big 12). Zack James (6-0) picked up the win, tossing five shutout frames for TCU (28-15, 13-8 Big 12).

TCU attacked quickly, hitting a homer in the first to grab the lead and never let up. The Horned Frogs added four runs in the third, six in the fourth and three in the sixth to take a 14-0 lead. The Cougars got on the board in the top of the seventh, as freshman Mikey Vanderheyden scored on a passed ball and freshman Will Van Wie crossed home on a sac fly from sophomore Justin Cherrington, but it wasn't enough as TCU forced the run-rule, winning 14-2.

UP NEXT
Houston heads to SFA for a Tuesday tilt (4 p.m.) before returning to Schroeder Park for the first time since April 11 as the Cougars host McNeese for a 6:30 p.m. start on Wednesday.
