Women’s Basketball Inks Mountain West Sixth Player of the Year Kaelyn Hamilton

Junior guard joins Cougars following two seasons at San Diego State
HOUSTON – Guard Kaelyn Hamilton, the 2025-26 Mountain West Sixth Player of the Year, has joined the University of Houston Women's Basketball Program, Head Coach Matthew Mitchell announced Thursday.
Hamilton, a 5-9 guard from McKinney, Texas, comes to the Cougars after two seasons at San Diego State, where she was named the 2025-26 Mountain West Sixth Player of the Year. She will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
While at San Diego State, Hamilton played a vital role for the Aztecs in winning the 2024-25 Mountain West Tournament title and the 2025-26 Mountain West regular season title.
As a sophomore, Hamilton appeared in 33 games, averaging 7.7 points per game while shooting 51% coming off the bench. She recorded a career-high 18 points against Wyoming on an efficient 7-for-8 shooting (Feb. 28, 2026). The guard also recorded a career-high eight rebounds against McNeese (March 22, 2026).
During conference play, she averaged 8.2 points on 55% shooting from the field and 44% from three in just 18.8 minutes per game. She was the first Aztec to win the Sixth Player of the Year award.
During her freshman campaign, Hamilton appeared in 34 games and averaged 2.7 points, 1.4 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 0.6 steals in 12.3 minutes per game off the bench. The guard also excelled in the classroom, earning a spot on the 2024-25 Mountain West All-Academic Team.
Hamilton prepped at McKinney North High School where she played for her mom Veronica Reed-Hamilton and won three district championships. She set the school record for career points (2,350) and assists (426) in addition to setting a single-game record for steals (11).
The McKinney, Texas, native was a three-time District MVP as well as a three-time All-Region and All-State selection. During her freshman year, she was named the 10-5A Offensive Player of the Year.
As a senior, she averaged 20.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.2 steals per game. During her junior year, Hamilton averaged 16.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.2 steals per game.
