Cougars score first, drop series to BYU

HOUSTON – The Houston Baseball team scored two runs in the first inning but dropped its Friday night game to BYU, 6-2, at Schroeder Park.

Houston (16-17, 3-11 Big 12) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a bases clearing two-run double off the bat of first baseman Cade Climie.

Right-handed pitcher Kendall Hoffman (1-4) had a strong first five innings with a season-high six strikeouts but ran into trouble in the top of the sixth inning.

BYU (17-16, 7-7 Big 12) erupted for four runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run home run and two runs scoring because of a Houston error.

BYU scored two additional runs in ninth inning on a single and a double.

UP NEXT
Houston will look to salvage the series on Saturday at 1 p.m. against BYU. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
