Perez homered, Houston scored three in first inning in loss
Right fielder Xavier Perez hit his sixth home run of the season in the first inning — a two-run opposite field home run to give Houston (13-13, 1-7 Big 12) a 2-0 lead.
Two batters later, catcher Riley Jackson punched a shallow fly ball off his fists into right to score designated hitter Easton Winfield from first base to give Houston a 3-0 lead.
Baylor (15-11, 4-4 Big 12) scored 10 unanswered runs including six in the third inning.
Senior Ryne Rodriguez struck out five in 5.0 relief innings.
UP NEXT
The Cougars look to salvage a game in the series against the Bears on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Schroeder Park. The series finale can be streamed on ESPN+.
