Houston goes for the win in the Don Sanders Cup after taking game one in Huntsville
HOUSTON – The Houston Baseball team starts a nine-game homestand on Tuesday as it hosts Sam Houston for the second game of the Don Sanders Cup. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.

Houston took game one of the series on Feb. 24 with a 5-4 victory in Huntsville, Texas. The series is played annually in honor of Don Sanders' contributions to the baseball programs at both Houston and Sam Houston.Â
Â
Tuesday is also Houston's Rodeo Night, celebrating the start of the Houston Rodeo at NRG Stadium. Music throughout the game will be country themed while fans will have the opportunity to participate in rodeo-themed promotions during the game.Â

The game also marks the start of Baseball Bingo at Schroeder Park. At every midweek home game, fans can compete for prizes while watching carefully for the actions on their Baseball Bingo card.

- Houston picked up a win in its last game out, defeating Alabama, 8-2, in the last game at the Frisco Classic behind a dominant showing on the mound from Kendall Hoffman as well as stellar performances at the plate from Blake Fields and Dylan Maxcey.
- The Cougars won the first round of the Don Sanders Cup. Alex Solis shined with six strikeouts on the mound while senior Dylan Maxcey hit his first homer as a Cougar in the win.Â
- The Cougars play 11 different conferences including all of the Power 4 leagues. Houston has secured a win against an opponent from every other Power 4 conference.Â
- Houston started the season with a 4-0 showing at the Puerto Rico Challenge, defeating No. 21 Wake Forest in the first NCAA Division I Baseball game of the season. The showing propelled the Cougars into the national spotlight, receiving votes in the NCBWA Poll. Houston is still receiving votes in the third in-season release of the poll.Â
- Junior Tre Broussard has been highly ranked on MLB Draft prospects lists. MLB.com put him at No. 46 on their first 2026 Top 100 Draft prospects list while FloBaseball tabbed him at 79th and D1Baseball placed him at No. 65.
- Houston returns five position starters from last season, including Tyler Cox, the lone Cougar to start every game. Overall, the Cougars return a majority of its at-bats, hits, homers and RBIs. The pitching staff also sees significant returns as nearly 60 percent of Houston's innings and 52 percent of strikeouts are back in H-Town this year.
- The Cougars face a loaded schedule in 2026, battling five teams that finished 2025 in the Top 25 of RPI. The team will play 29 of its 55 games against teams that finished in the Top 50 of the NCAA's RPI and 25 games against teams that made the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
