Mitchell produces second multi-homer game of the season; Hartley becomes second Cougar starting pitcher to hit grand slam

The Cougars (17-13, 1-5 Big 12) had six batters record two hits on the night, but two multi-run innings including eight runs in the second frame by Texas State (19-9, 2-1 Sun Belt) were too much as Houston played from behind from the second inning on.

NOTABLES
- Sophomore Maddie Hartley made her first start of the season and third appearance in the circle, tossing 1.1 innings while recording a strikeout.
- Junior Makenna Mitchell launched her 11th and 12th home runs of the season, marking her second multi-homer outing of the season (Feb. 21 at McNeese).
- Sophomore Madox Mitchael continued her recent form at the plate, notching two hits on the night to now tally nine hits in her last six games.Â
- With a single in the bottom of the first, Mitchael recorded her 27th hit of the season to set a new single season best (26 total hits in 2025).
- The Cougars have now recorded a grand slam on consecutive games (Savanna Luther on March 15 vs Kansas).
- With a grand slam against Texas State, Hartley broke into the Houston Softball top 10 single-season home run leaders list, entering a now five-way tie with Brooke Lathan (2011), Elaina Nordstrom (2008), Sarah Queen (2021) and Becca Schulte (2021) with 13 homers in their respective seasons.Â
- Hartley became the second Cougar in program history to start a game at pitcher and hit a grand slam since Baillie Lott (March 3, 2009 vs. UTEP).

4th | Following a walk and two base hits to load up the bases, Hartley delivered her first career grand slam and 13th home run of the season to cut the Houston deficit to 8-6.Â
