The Cougars (14-6) wrap up tournament play with a career-day from sophomore Nevaeh Brown, taking command in the circle with her third-career complete game shutout in 5.0 IP paired with a new career-high nine strikeouts on the day. Houston gave Prairie View A&M (8-11) trouble at the plate, producing 11 hits on the day while posting a three-run second inning as well as a four-run fourth inning.  Â

- Houston gets back into the win column to close out the weekend, improving to 8-1 all-time against Prairie View A&M after suffering its first head-to-head loss to the Panthers, 7-5, on Saturday night.
- Brown's nine strikeouts on the day topped her previous career-best of six, set last weekend against Missouri (Feb. 20).
- Brown has now tossed four complete games this season with three coming via shutout.
- Freshman Shelby Taylor made her third-consecutive start for the Cougars, setting a new career high three hits on the day at the leadoff spot.
- Sophomore Madox Mitchael's two hits on the day marks back-to-back multi-hit outings, extending her hit streak to four games this weekend.
KEY INNINGS
2nd | Following back-to-back walks with one out, Taylor produced an RBI single to double the Cougars lead at 2-0. With runners on second and third, sophomore Maddie Hartley added two more runs to the board with a single down the left field, giving Houston a 4-0 advantage after two frames.

4th | With the bases loaded and one out, freshman RyLee Gardner connected on a single to left field, scoring Taylor and junior Jordee Wilkins to stretch the lead to 6-0. Two pitches later, junior Makenna Mitchell fouled out to right before Redmond's effort and pace helped her reach third base, followed by a trip to home plate via throwing error at second to lead 7-0. Mitchael called her own number for the game's final run, tallying a single to second base and scoring Gardner to extend the lead to 8-0.Â

UP NEXT
The Cougars gear up for a pair of midweek games, first returning home to host McNeese at 6 p.m., Tuesday, before a heading west on I-10 to face Incarnate Word at 5 p.m., Wednesday, in San Antonio. Houston will then open its Big 12 Conference slate, hosting No. 2 Texas Tech on March 6-8.
