Women’s Basketball Drops Big 12 Opener at -/rv West Virginia

Two Cougars score in double figures in conference opener loss
MORGANTOWN, W. VA. – The University of Houston Women's Basketball team dropped its Big 12 Conference opener against -/rv West Virginia, 101-46, inside Hope Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars (6-6, 0-1 Big 12) were led by graduate forward Amirah Abdur-Rahim with 11 points on the day while junior guard Kierra Merchant posted 10 points and seven rebounds.
West Virginia (11-2, 1-0 Big 12) had six players score in double figures, with Sydney Shaw leading the Mountaineers with 22 points.
The Mountaineers strong start saw them string together multiple lengthy runs over the first half, building a 42-21 lead at the half. Following a 39-point third quarter, West Virginia hit the triple-digit mark late in the game to earn the 101-46 victory.
