Arbolida hits 13th long ball in series opening loss
HOUSTON – Right fielder Cary Arbolida hit his 13th home run of the season, but the Houston Baseball team dropped the series opener to UCF 4-1 on Friday night inside Don Sanders Field at Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park.
In a nearly 20-minute top of the first inning, UCF (28-15, 10-12 Big 12) pushed the first run of the game across on a single to left field. The Knights then scored two more runs in the third inning on a two-out two-run home run, taking advantage of a costly two-out Cougar throwing error.
Arbolida struck for a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth for the Cougars (23-23, 6-16 Big 12) lone run of the game. The senior hit his team-leading 13th home run and has hit five home runs in the last five games.
Senior righty Cade Citelli (3-2) tied his career-high by pitching 6.0 innings for Houston and overcame a 32-pitch first inning on his way to a career-high 103 pitches with six strikeouts while only allowing one earned run.

Houston and UCF continue the three-game series with game two on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Schroeder Park before concluding the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
