Cougars slug season-high four home runs in loss
The Cougars (16-15, 4-11 Big 12) scored first for the second-straight game thanks to second baseman Harold Coll's third home run of the weekend, a two-run shot to left field in the first inning. Center fielder Jacob Schoenvogel clanged an opposite field home run off the left field foul pole for his second home run of the season in the second inning to give Houston a 3-1 lead.
Texas Tech (24-9, 8-7 Big 12) erupted for seven runs in the third inning with the help of the Red Raiders' second grand slam of the series. A three-run fourth extended the lead to 11-3.
Houston scored three runs in the fifth inning thanks to right fielder Jonathan French's team-leading eighth home run of the year and second of the weekend to make it 11-6.
Leading off the ninth inning, designated hitter Cary Arbolida hit his second home run of the weekend to cut the deficit to 12-8.
The Cougars hit multiple home runs in all three games of the series in Lubbock.
Houston's lone bright spot on the mound came from right hander Cade Citelli who faced the minimum over 3.1 relief innings with six strikeouts, one off a season high.
