Coll extends hitting streak to nine games, drives in two
HOUSTON – In a contrasting game from a night before, the Houston Baseball team dropped its Saturday night matchup to UT Arlington 7-3 from Sanders Field at Schroeder Park.
Houston (21-22) struck first in the second inning after executing a hit and run to perfection. After left fielder Ace Reese singled, a double to left center off the bat of center fielder Tre Jones allowed Reese to score from first who was breaking for second on the pitch.
UT Arlington (18-25) took the lead on a two-run scorcher of a home run in the top of the third inning.
Second baseman Harold Coll drove in his 44th and 45th RBI of the season to give the Cougars a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning on a bases loaded two-out single.
The Mavericks' second two-run home run of the game came in the seventh inning to give the visitors the 4-3 lead. UT Arlington scored three more runs in the inning after a single, sacrifice fly and double gave the Mavericks a 7-3 lead.
In his first-career start, freshman right-hander Richie Roman went a career-long 2.2 innings with two strikeouts.
