SERIES HISTORY. This will be the seventh meeting between the two teams with the all time series being tied at 3-3. The Cougars are coming off a 4-2 win from last season when the teams met on April 19.
LAST TIME OUT. Houston evened the Don Sanders Cup at 1-1 against Sam Houston State. The Cougars took a monumental 14-3 win scoring four runs in the fifth inning followed by six runs in the fifth inning.
MURRAY MANIA. Two-way player Justin Murray has made his mark on the Houston baseball program. The junior leads the team with 5 saves including one against Wichita State last weekend. The transfer pitched 1.0 clean inning against South Florida on Friday and 2.0 on Sunday while striking out five batters. He currently has two wins on the season and no losses through 12 appearances. In addition to his performance on the mound, Murray is second on the team in runs scored and RBI.
10+ HITS. The Cougars recorded four-straight games with 10+ hits. The streak started against Wichita State when Houston recorded 17 followed by 14 against Sam Houston before recording 10 and then 19 against South Florida.
SERIES WINS. With its 2-1 series win over South Florida, the Cougars have won all three conference weekend series as well as the two series leading into conference play. It started with Minnesota before the Cougars beat UTA and Northwestern in a single weekend. Houston opened conference play with a series win over ranked ECU followed by series wins against Wichita State and South Florida.
DOUBLE PLAY. After turning three double plays in one game against South Florida, the Cougars are ranked 8th in the nation for double plays with 34 on the season as well as being No. 13 in double plays per game.
REACHING SAFELY. Zach Arnold and Justin Murray are both on a 29-game reached base streak. Arnold has reached in every game that he has played this season while Murray's dates back to the second game of the season against Cal on Feb. 19.
400 WINS. With the 14-3 win against Sam Houston State, head coach Todd Whitting secured his 400th career win.
