Cougars roll to fourth straight victory with Thursday results
HOUSTON – Houston Tennis hosted a doubleheader matchup against Binghamton and McNeese at the Barbara Wallace Winston Facility on Thursday. The Cougars came out on top sweeping Binghamton, 7-0 and McNeese, 7-0.
Houston (10-6) hosted Binghamton (0-16) in the first matchup of the day with doubles play. For the third match in a row, Elena Trencheva and Sophie Gerits were victorious, this time knocking off Caterina Casadei and Maria Pereira, 6-1.
The momentum continued when Azul Pedemonti and Blanca Cortijo Parreno defeated their counterparts, 6-3. Laura Slisane and Maria Dzemeshkevich sealed the doubles point for the Cougars winning, 7-5.
In singles play, all six Cougars defeated their opponents. Gabriela Giraldo and Blanca Cortijo Parreno both had perfect matchups against the Bearcats winning their matches, 6-0. Houston's luck continued on court four with Gerits defeating her rival, 6-1, 6-0.
On court one, Dzemeshkevich faced Kaplan in a tough matchup. After falling short in the first set (7-5), Dzemeshkevich won the second set (7-6), resulting in a tiebreaker (10-6) to give the Cougars the victory.
After earning the victory against Binghamton, Houston faced McNeese (1-11) and looked to keep the momentum going.
The Cougars came out on top in doubles play with Dzemeshkevich and Slisane defeating their opponents, 6-1. On Court 1, Pedemonti and Cortijo Parreno blanked their rivals, 6-0.
In singles play, Giraldo did not allow her opponent to get a point on the board, sweeping both sets, 6-0. Pedemonti gave the Cougars their fourth point of the day earning the win (6-2, 6-1) on Court 3.
In the final matchup of the day, Cortijo Parreno defeated Natalia Ballo, (6-4, 6-1) giving the Cougars their second victory of the day.
