Road Swing Offers Top 2 AAC Matchup

HOUSTON – Coming off a 1-1 weekend split against SMU and Memphis, the University of Houston volleyball team heads back on the road for a pair of American matches at Cincinnati and at East Carolina on Friday and Sunday, respectively.

Junior Abbie Jackson was named to the AAC's Honor Roll for the second-straight week after averaging 4.93 points per set against SMU and Memphis. Jackson set a career-high 20 digs against SMU.

Houston is tied for second in the conference with Cincinnati, both with 6-2 AAC records. Cincinnati has won the last eight meetings against Houston. The Cougars beat the Pirates in the last meeting, breaking a five-match winning streak by ECU at the time.

Houston held its third opponent to a sub-.100 attacking percentage when UH held Memphis to a .055 attacking percentage in the match.

Kate Georgiades ranks 15th nationally in digs/set (5.27) and leads the American Athletic Conference.

Houston was picked No. 2 in the American Athletic Conference Coaches Preseason Poll. It was the second straight season in which the Cougars were picked among the Top-Two leaders and the highest preseason ranking since the 2006 Cougars were picked No. 2 in Conference USA Preseason Poll.

Under the leadership of third-year Head Coach David Rehr, the Cougars have produced eight All-American Conference student-athletes to go with a Freshman and Setter of the Year. That is more All-Conference honorees than any other school during the last two years.

Cincinnati head coach spent two seasons at UH, winning 38 matches from 2010-11.
