Houston earns fourth sweep of the season on Tuesday

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Volleyball team earned its fourth sweep of the season, defeating Lamar in three sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-15) at Fertitta Center on Tuesday evening.

With the victory over Lamar (0-6), Houston (5-1) remains undefeated at home this season. The Cougars are 4-0 at home to start the season for the first time since 2023.

Houston had a competitive start to the match registering 3.0 total blocks, tallying a .300 hitting percentage, taking the first set, 25-16. Houston used a 6-0 scoring run to gain a 23-14 advantage. Junior Sydney Jones set the tone for the Cougars leading with a hitting percentage of .556.

Houston won the second set 25-17, using a balanced attack, registering a .333 hitting percentage and four aces. Senior Alexis Roberson hit 1.000 on three kills, while junior Kalei Edson notched 11 assists.

Continuing strong with a two-set advantage, Houston secured the third set with a set score of 25-15. The Cougars finished with a total of 40 kills, 35 assists and 52 digs.

UP NEXT

The Cougars will head to Nassau, The Bahamas, to compete in the Paradise Invitational featuring #14 Purdue, #3 Kentucky and #8 SMU, beginning Saturday.

Houston will face #14 Purdue in the opening match at 10:30 a.m. CT on Saturday on ESPN+, while #3 Kentucky and #8 SMU will face each other at 1 p.m. ET.

The winners will play in the Championship game scheduled for 4 p.m. CT, Sunday on ESPN, and the losing teams will play in the consolation match at noon CT, Sunday on ESPN2.
