Randel tosses career-long seven innings in victory
HOUSTON -- The University of Houston Baseball team defeated Army, 3-2, on Saturday night at Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park.
With the decision, the Cougars clinch the series and improve to 6-7 on the season, while the Black Knights fall to 5-6.
KEY INNINGS
2nd | Junior left fielder Blake Way got Houston on the board in the bottom of the second inning. The native of Slidell, La., tripled into the right-center gap to leadoff the inning before scoring on a wild pitch two batters later.
4th | After Army scored one run on a RBI double in the top of the fourth to tie the game, Way again put the Cougars ahead in the bottom frame. Third baseman Jared Triolo reached on a hit by pitch, and senior first baseman Joe Davis singled to left field to put runners at the corners. Way delivered Triolo with a sacrifice fly.
6th | In the sixth, freshman second baseman Brad Burckel laid down a bunt single before a throwing error from the pitcher allowed him to advance to second base. Flyouts from senior center fielder Grayson Padgett and Triolo delivered Burckel for a 3-1 advantage.
9th | The Black Knights scored one unearned run in the top of the ninth for the 3-2 final.
