Houston Takes Down Sam Houston State

The Cougars add a 5-2 victory at home
HOUSTON – The Houston Women's Tennis team defeated Sam Houston State 5-2 for their second home win, on Friday at Winston Tennis Facility.
Junior Phonexay Chitdara and freshman Sophie Gerits started off doubles strong for the Cougars with a 6-2 win over Isidora Zivkovic and Roos Gerritsen. The Belgian duo improved their undefeated record to 2-0 in doubles this season.
Freshmen Elena Tairyan and Jovana Vukovic clinched the doubles point over Ema Barkovic and
Petra Kaszas, 6-3, followed by Ndindi Ndunda and Mimi Kendall-Woseley's win at Flight 1, 6-4.
With Houston leading 1-0 going into singles, the Cougars continued their winning ways. Stephanie Belovukovic raced to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Petra Kaszas to start singles. Minutes after, Kendall-Woseley topped Ema Barkovic, 6-2, 6-3.
After Vukovic dropped the first match for the Cougars at court 4, Ndunda clinched the match at court 1 defeating Sahaja Yamalapalli, 6-1, 7-5. Chitdara followed in a hard-fought match, beating Lusine Chobanyan 6-0, 6-4.
Gerits battled Isidora Zivkovic in three sets, eventually dropping the match at court 3 in a heartbreaking 6-0, 2-6, 1-6.
