Houston Sweeps No. 7 ECU on the Road

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Houston Baseball went on the road and completed the sweep at No. 7 ECU over the weekend, capped by a 6-5 victory on Sunday to remain atop the American Athletic Conference standings.
With the win, the Cougars improved to 28-16 overall and 13-5 in American play, while ECU fell to 30-12 and 8-7 in league action.
HOUSTON HITS
- Houston earned its first ever sweep on the road in Greenville, N.C.
- The Cougars have won eight straight games over the Pirates, dating back to 2016 season.
- Houston notched its first conference road sweep since May 10-11, 2014 at UConn.
- The Cougars notched its third conference weekend sweep and second straight (ECU, Wichita State, Memphis).
- Houston captured its eighth weekend series win and fourth in conference play.
- The Cougars notched their first series win in Greenville, N.C. since 2010.
- Joe Davis belted his 26th career home run and fourth of the year with a three-run bomb in the seventh.
- The 26 career home runs puts Davis is sole possession of fifth all-time on the Houston home run chart, just five from tying the leader Pat Hewes' 31.
- Connor Hollis singled to drive in a run in the fifth to extend his on-base streak to 17 games.
- Tyler Bielamowicz singled in the second inning to extend his on-base streak to 17 games.

Houston out hit ECU for the third straight game, 8-5. Leading the way for the Cougars was junior Joe Davis, who went 3-for-5 with a run and three RBI on a three-run home run, his fourth long ball of the year.
Senior Connor Hollis had two, two-out RBI singles and Wendell Champion II, Tyler Bielamowicz and Cooper Coldiron each singled and scored a run.

Houston starter Ryan Randel went 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on two hits with three walks to accompany three strikeouts.
Sophomore Brayson Hurdsman earned his second win of the year as he put together another strong outing out of the bullpen, throwing 3.2 shutout innings, allowing just two hits with a walk and two strikeouts. He improved to 2-4 on the season.
Sophomore Carter Henry allowed three runs on one hit and three walks with two strikeouts in 0.2 innings.
Senior Joey Pulido earned his second save of the weekend, retiring the final two hitters of the game to preserve the 6-5 lead.
KEY INNINGS
4th | ECU scored the game's first runs when the Pirates plated a pair in the fourth following two walks, two singles and a sac fly for the 2-0 lead.
5th | Houston took advantage of two defensive miscues by ECU to plate its first run of the day. Tyler Bielamowicz led off the inning being hit, moved first to third on two throwing errors and scored on an RBI-ground out by Grayson Padgett.
The scoring continued when Cooper Coldiron reached on a 1-out walk, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a Connor Hollis RBI-single to make it a 2-2 game.
7th | Houston produced a four-run seventh inning to break open the 2-2 game and take a 6-2 lead.
Wendell Champion II led off the inning with a bunt single, moved to second on a sac bunt by Kyle Lovelace and came around to score on a Connor Hollis RBI-single, his second of the day.
With two outs, Jared Triolo walked to send Joe Davis to the plate with two on as the junior slugger belted his team-leading fourth home run of the year, a three-run shot to left field to put the Cougars ahead by four.
9th | ECU made things interesting in the ninth, scoring three runs to make it a 6-5 game. The Pirates took advantage of three straight walks to open inning and capitalized on those free passes with a two-run double and sac fly, but Joey Pulido managed slam the door, stranding a runner in scoring position to end the game.

The Cougars will remain in the city of Houston all week when it plays the third and final game of the Don Sanders Cup vs. Sam Houston State on Tuesday at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
