Houston Defeats North Florida 4-0

JACKSONVILLE â€" The Houston Cougar Women's Tennis team beat North Florida in a 4-0 sweep on Thursday. With this victory Houston moves to 15-1 on the season and improves their road record to 4-1.
Tsveta Dimitrova and Ana Glumac started off doubles posting a 6-1 win over Luise Inert and Rafaela Gomez. They picked up their second consecutive win playing together and have yet to lose.
Constandena Nicolaou and Sveva Mazzari finished next and clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory against Valentina Mariotto and Florencia Rossi. This was their second time playing doubles together this spring season. Alison Mills and Lauren Alter's match went unfinished with the score tied at 4-4.
The Cougars rode their momentum into singles play and won three straight matches to clinch the overall match. Mazzari was the first to finish and raced to a 6-1, 6-4 win over Eva Nyikos. The senior remains undefeated on the season with an outstanding 15-0 record in singles.
Nicolaou finished quickly after with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Valentina Mariotto. She improves to 11-1 this season in singles and continues to win her matches in straight sets. Houston led 3-0 over North Florida after this victory.
Dimitrova sealed the deal with a grinding 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win over Rafaela Gomez. Dimitrova finished strong after dropping the second set. She moves to 13-2 on the season in singles play.
There were three matches remaining when the Cougars completed the 4-0 sweep. Alter was leading against Lucia Montaño 7-5, 5-3. Alison Mills was down 6-7, 3-4 to Luise Inert, and Glumac was up 7-6, 5-4 against Florencia Rossi.
UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
The Cougars conclude their road trip with a visit to Tampa to face South Florida on Friday. The match is slated to start at 11 a.m. (CST).
