Cougars Hang Tough Against Princeton

HOUSTON â€" The Houston Cougar women's tennis team wrapped its 9-game home stand with a 5-1 loss to Princeton at the John E. Hoff Courts on Thursday, in Houston.
Due to the threat of rain, the Cougars and Tigers decided to open Thursday's competition with singles play, which put Houston in an early 1-0 hole due to an injury to their sixth player.
Houston got a big win from No. 107 Despoina Vogasari who knocked off Princeton's top player Amanda Muliawan on the top court. After winning the first set 6-4, the back-to-back American Conference Player of the Week awardee dropped the second set 2-6. However, Vogasari would respond with a 6-3 win in set three to claim the victory. The win marked the 19th of the season for Vogasari.
The day began with Angela Lorenzo dropping a tough match to Dorothy Tang. Lorenzo battled hard but fell 7-5 in the first set, before losing the second set 6-3. Martin was the next to fall with a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Katrine Steffensen on Court 3.
The final two matches would each go to three sets. Tina Rupert fell to Caroline Joyce 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 on court four, just moments before Mina Markovic dropped her match to Sivan Krems 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
UP NEXT
Houston heads on the road for a matchup against American Conference foe SMU on Saturday, March 19, In Dallas, Texas. The match against the Cougars is the only one for the Mustangs this week, as they enter with an 8-6 record on the season.

For a minimum gift of $1,000, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket and a lesson from the coach.
GRAND SLAM
For a minimum gift of $2,500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket, a lesson from the coach and a group lesson from the coaching staff.
