HOW IT PLAYED OUT
Saturday's action began with Dimitrova and Mazzari once again teaming up to face off against Juhasz/Panaite of Kansas State. The two teams battled until the end, but unfortunately Houston came up short falling 7-6(13). However, the Cougar duo regrouped and bounced back for singles play.
Dimitrova continued her strong singles play, when she met Sarai Monarrez of SMU on Saturday. Similar to her match on Friday, Dimitrova won in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 to advance to her second consecutive flight finals and win her fifth straight singles match. The freshman won her flight at the Rice Invitational in September and was named American Player of the Month.
Mazzari also advanced to her second straight flight finals with a victory over Panaite on Saturday. After edging out Panaite in the first set 7-5, Mazzari dropped the second set 3-6. However, Mazzari left no doubt in set three, winning 6-2 to extend her winning streak to four consecutive matches. Mazzari led her flight finals match at the Rice Invitational before it was halted due to rain.
Glumac bounced back from a tough loss on Friday to pick up a three-set win on Saturday. After dropping set one 6-3 to Cerdan Vives, Glumac found her game and stuck with it, winning the next two sets 7-5, 6-3 to win the match.
The final day of the SMU Invitational is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., Sunday. Doubles play will kick off day three followed by singles play throughout the remainder of the day.
