Dimitrova, Mazzari Win at SMU Invite

DALLAS â€" Freshman Tsveta Dimitrova and junior Sveva Mazzari led the Houston Cougar Women's Tennis team with a pair of singles wins on the opening day of the SMU Invitational on Friday, in Dallas, Texas.

HOW IT PLAYED OUT
The SMU Invitational kicked off Friday morning with doubles action, where Dimitrova and Mazzari were on the court against Elliot/Zogg of SMU. The Cougars battled but dropped the match 6-3 to bring their season record to 2-2 after advancing to the flight finals in the Rice Invitational to open the season. Junior Ana Glumac was also on the court for doubles play, however she teamed with Issy Franks of Marquette in the opening round. The duo defeated Kerry Galhos and Marina Vicens Miquel of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 6-3.
Dimitrova's singles run began against Elizabeth Barnickel from Air Force. Dimitrova, The American Conference's September Player of the Month continued the perfect start to her season with a straight set win taking each frame 6-3, 6-3. Dimitrova improved to 4-0 in singles play in the fall.
Mazzari was on the court at the same time as her teammate, taking on Domonique Garley from Gonzaga. The Sanremo, Italy, native took set one 6-2 before coming back for a 6-3 victory in set two to seal the match. Mazzari improved to 3-0 on the season after advancing to the flight finals in the Rice Invitational before rain shortened her final match.
Glumac was the final Cougar on the singles court on Friday, as she met Haruna Tsuruta from Gonzaga. After dropping the first set 6-1, Glumac fought hard to force a second set tie-breaker to try to extend the match. However, Glumac fell 7-6(3) in the second set to drop her first match of the season.
The second day of the SMU Invitational is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., Saturday.

The Cougars are proud to introduce the Center Court Club, a restricted-giving program that directly impacts the needs of the University of Houston Tennis program. Gifts to the Center Court Club provide financial support directly to the University of Houston Tennis program for needs beyond the program's operating budget. Revenue generated from the Center Court Club is used at the discretion of the Head Coach for program enhancements. Membership in the Center Court Club is annual and requires a minimum $100 gift.

For a minimum gift of $100, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball.
ACE
For a minimum gift of $500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation and a stadium blanket.
US OPEN
For a minimum gift of $1,000, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket and a lesson from the coach.
GRAND SLAM
For a minimum gift of $2,500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket, a lesson from the coach and a group lesson from the coaching staff.
