Tsveta Dimitrova Named Player of the Month

Providence, R.I. â€" Houston Cougar freshman Tsveta Dimitrova has been named the American Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Month for September after her performance at the Rice Invitational, the league office announced Tuesday.
Dimitrova opened 2016-17 singles play with a win over Joanna Saava from Alabama. In the match, Dimitrova came from behind to win tiebreakers in each set to claim the match 7-6(5), 7-6(4). The following day, Dimitrova breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Carla Cerdan of UT Arlington to advance to her flight finals.
The Padardzhik, Bulgaria, native dropped her first set of the match in the flight finals against Christina Sisti from Tulane, but edged her out in a second-set tiebreaker 7-6(4) to force a decisive third set. Dimitrova left no doubt in the final set racing to a 6-3 victory to win the flight championship.
In doubles play, Dimitrova teamed with junior Sveva Mazzari to combine for a 2-1 record on the weekend. On the opening day, the duo dropped the first game against Mboko/Koke from Denver before reeling off six straight to win the match. The team faced a pair of matches on Saturday, winning over Sisti/Kurtz of Tulane 6-3, to advance to flight finals before eventually dropping the flight championship match 7-5 to Durkin/Ho of Rice.
UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
The Cougars continue the fall season with a trip north to compete in the SMU Invitational in Dallas, Texas. The event is scheduled to be held Oct. 7-9 at the SMU Tennis Complex.

Gifts to the Center Court Club provide financial support directly to the University of Houston Tennis program for needs beyond the program's operating budget. Revenue generated from the Center Court Club is used at the discretion of the Head Coach for program enhancements. Membership in the Center Court Club is annual and requires a minimum $100 gift.

For a minimum gift of $1,000, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket and a lesson from the coach.
GRAND SLAM
For a minimum gift of $2,500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket, a lesson from the coach and a group lesson from the coaching staff.
