FULL 2015 FALL SCHEDULE
HOUSTON - Head Coach Courtney Steinbock is proud to announce the University of Houston Tennis team's 2015 fall schedule. The Cougars will take part in three fall events under the direction of their first-year head coach.
"I am excited to get the season started with our fall schedule," Steinbock said. "I'm looking forward to watching our student-athletes compete against top competition both regionally and nationally for the first time. We will learn a lot from each other in the next few months, so I am eager to see what they can accomplish."
The Cougars open the fall at the Rice Invitational, which will take place Sept. 25-27 at the George R. Brown Tennis Complex in Houston. Rising sophomore Angela Lorenzo won her draw at Rice's annual fall tournament in 2014, while rising senior Maria Cardenas advanced to the championship match of her bracket.
Reigning American Athletic Conference Player of the Year Despoina Vogasari will compete at the 2015 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The Qualifying Round begins Oct. 6, and the prestigious tournament concludes Oct. 11. The rising junior won a pair of matches last season at the All-American Championships in her first appearance.
The full Cougar squad is back in action at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships, which run Oct. 22-26 in College Station, Texas. Vogasari won the event in 2014, besting three nationally ranked opponents on the way to the first Texas Regional title in Houston history. Cardenas also took part in Regionals last season, winning a pair of matches.
Winners of 22 dual matches a season ago, the Cougars open Steinbock's first spring championship season in January 2016, with the schedule to be revealed at a later date.
