PROVIDENCE, R.I. - University of Houston Women's Basketball freshman Serithia Hawkins has been named to the American Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll, the league office announced Monday. The weekly honor is the first of the freshman's career and also the first for the Cougars this season.
Hawkins led Houston with 11.5 points per game last week while shooting 64.3 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from 3-point range. She also averaged 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game as the Cougars went 1-1 on the week.
"I'm proud of Serithia and the progress she continues to make as a freshman," Houston head coach Ronald Hughey said. "Her ceiling is very high, and she continues to work very hard. This is just the first of many honors she will earn here at Houston."
The rookie from Moore, Okla., had her best performance as a collegian Dec. 7 in a 67-51 victory over Incarnate Word. Hawkins tallied a career-high 16 points while also grabbing seven rebounds. Hawkins drained her first six field goal attempts of the evening and also pocketed three steals.
For the season, Hawkins leads all American Athletic Conference freshman in both scoring, with 10.7 points per game and rebounding, with 6.8 boards per game.
UP NEXT FOR THE COUGARS |
Hawkins and the Cougars head back on the road Thursday to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Game time is set for 7 p.m. CT in a rematch of one of last season's most exciting Houston victories. The Coogs overcame a rowdy road environment to earn a 68-66 victory behind 20 points from Jessieka Palmer.
The Coogs return to Hofheinz Pavilion Dec. 20 to host UTRGV in the team's non-conference finale. Tickets are available at UHCougars.com/tickets as Houston aims for their fourth victory in as many tries against the school formerly known as UT-Pan American.
